Our main feature this month is a recent trip we took to the Mexican state of Nuevo León as part of the State Hispanic Genealogical Conference in Laredo this past September. It was a hectic one-day trip but a very memorable one that we won't soon forget.

We take a brief look at the life and genealogy of one of Duval County's
early pioneer settlers, Inocente Perez. I'd like to thank José Guerra of Houston, a descendant, for providing me with the genealogy list.

José (Ché) Garza of Kingsville shares a beautiful poem he wrote for his
departed wife, Gante, on the third anniversary of her death and for All Soul's Day.

Our ex-Falfurreño, Nick Gonzales, who resides in San José, Ca. writes about how a good vocabulary is helpful in getting a good job. It worked for him.

We take a look at a craft that doesn't have many craftsmen in its field, the
art of blacksmith. Daniel Pérez of Alice has been an apprentice for several years trying to master this craft from a master craftsman and we commend him for taking on such a hard job.

In our music scene we cover a veteran of the Tejano music scene, Linda
Escobar, since she was a six year old child singing with her dad, Elijio.

In our Mexico section we examine the life of Martin Lopez, maybe the lost
Dorado of Pancho Villa's Army.

Juan M. Escobar explains to us on the founding of the Lost Patrol Ranch in
Benavides, Tx. A place where one goes and honors our military veterans.

As always check out our regular departments and we welcome all of our new subscribers and readers.

Hasta la próxima,

Homero S. Vera
