I'd like to welcome everyone to the 25th edition of El Mesteño, which begins our third year of publication. I'd like to thank all of our faithful readers, subscribers, and advertisers for your continuous support. You are a big part of our existence. Our cover feature this month is on Don

his family and fellow citizens. A true public servant of the
era. I'd like to thank his granddaughter, Lourdes Treviño
Cantu, for her support in making Juan M. Escobar writes about an overlooked Texas patriot, Don Martín de León and his founding of Victoria, Tx. in 1824. He also makes available De León's family tree. Great information to track down your family tree if you descend from him. The Victoria Hispanic Genealogical and Historical Society makes available a list of the forty colonists who founded Victoria, Tx.
