This months main feature is on Catarino E. Garza, General de los Pronunciados. Don Catarino was a man ahead of his time. But he planted the seed for the overthrow of the Porfirio Diaz regime in Mexico. I would like to thank Carlos Perez, Catarinos last surviving grandson for sharing one of his poems and a corrido with us. Besides from being a journalist, Catarino was also an accomplished poet. A truly intellectual person in that era. In our stories section, while talking to my aunt, Paulita
V. Gonzalez about Catarino Garza, I found to my surprise that
an uncle had been one of his pronunciados. That is why it is
important to document old stories. Thanks to Nick Gonzales for finishing up his series on our Hispanic roots. What will be next, Nick? Read some great poems from some of our readers, Maria E. Garzas
poem on Thanksgiving and Inéz Treviños poem
Las olas del mar. As always, thanks to our faithful readers, subscribers, and
our advertisers who make this publication possible. |
