Volume 2, Issue 13 |
Our main feature this month is on Sixto C. Navarro, pioneer school teacher in Concepcion, Texas. I want to thank Aida P. Garcia for lending me the photo for the story. I also used deed , marriage, and birth records at the Duval County courthouse. I also want to thank Richard Garcia, Sixto's grandson for contacting me and giving me some information on the children and for acknowledging that Sixto was indeed José Antonio Navarro's grandson. I want to thank Mrs. Luisa Leal for showing me the old house of sillares that is on her property and for sharing some information on the history of the ranch and a photo. In our music section, be sure to read about the conjunto from Japan, Los Gatos. Imagine our Tex-Mex music being played in Japan. What an honor that this group is introducing our conjunto music to another part of the world. Our vaquero hats off to them. Speaking of vaqueros, read about the cattle trail drives led by Aniceto Pulido to Kansas in our vaquero section. Also, thanks to José G. Garza for sharing the beautiful poem he wrote for his late wife. Check out our regular departments and please, if you have a story or recipe that you would like to share with our readers, please don't hesitate to mail it to me. El Mesteño begins its second year of publication with
this issue. It seems like yesterday we were starting out with
our first issue. We want to thank all our faithful readers, subscribers,
retailer, and our advertisers for helping us through the year. |
