Our main feature this month is Rancho La Bandera of José
María Valadez Malto, South Texas pioneer. My references
for some of the information was his son's, Martín, ledger
book of 1905 and a biography written in 1947 by grandson, Octaviano
Escobar Valadez, of Las Hojas Ranch, Starr County and translated
by great-grandson Carlos H. Garcia of Brownsville, Texas. Also, thanks to Abelardo Gonzalez of Alice, Texas for his efforts on gathering oral information and for furnishing a photo. |
