El Mesteño est. 1997

October 2001
Special Edition

A Magazine about Mexican-American Culture and Heritage in South Texas and Mexico

New Format and Schedule

When we began publishing El Mesteño back in October of 1997, we didn't know if we were going to go past that initial issue or the first year. Thanks to all you readers who have subscribed through the years and our faithful advertisers we have made it through four years, publishing 48 issues, once every month. With the start of our fifth anniversary, we will be changing our format and schedule.

El Mesteño will be published semi-annually (twice a year). It will be printed in a journal type of paperback book making it easier to handle and store on your bookshelf. We will continue to cover stories throughout South Texas and Mexico and we welcome contributing writers to send in their stories for consideration for publication. We will try to keep the subscription price about the same. Everyone who has time left on their subscription will be prorated into the new format. We will be sending you another issue informing you of your subscription status and also our itinerary for tours that we will be conducting in South Texas. As we mentioned, we will publish twice a year, Fall-Winter 2001-2002 and Spring-Summer 2002. The Fall-Winter issue should come out around January 2002.

We hope that everyone understands that it takes many hours and miles to research many of these stories. With this new format we hope to deliver a better product for you, our readers. The new journal will most likely be available in stores and through our mailing address, phone, or website. For recent subscribers, we also have back issues from Nov. 1997 - Sept. 2001 available.

In closing, I would like to thank my wife, Letty, for being a great help in many of the office duties, in sales, in translating the main story into Spanish, and her much needed support all of these years. I would also like to thank Eddie Pulido of Pulido2000.com for creating and maintaining El Mesteño's website these past four years. It has been a great asset in reaching people all over the world and welcoming new subscribers. It will continue to operate but also with a different look.

Hasta la próxima,

Homero S. Vera
